Bug Hunters
The hardest thing for me (Paula) to get used to has been cockroaches. I think we're finally wining the battle with just the right combination of chemicals and cleanliness. A few nights ago we killed about 10 of them. Yes, they are pretty gross. Here is a picture Nick took of two 'fearless' bug hunters in action. And the bug in this picture is not a cockroach it's just a little spider!! I leave the big roaches for Nick.

Paula - you are such a wuss. I give you a couple of months and you'll be serving them big old bugs as hors de ouvres. We will keep a look out for a cockroach cookbook. Bugs and snakes - you were warned. I love the pic of the fearless Kayla. I'm sure you could caption it " I just stay here Mommy". The blog is great fun and we will check back regularly. Just dont start writing in Pidgin. Miss you all. J,V, K and A.

Came upon your site some how (maybe through the png gossip website. I am from NZ and spent (along with my husband)a year in Bougainville with a NZ volunteer agency VSA. What a great year!! We spent a few days in Mt Hagen so was interested to see the pics from there. Know all about those cockroaches! We took some surface spray from NZ with us as advised and found out it worked a treat - just pyrethrum and not too toxic.. but the c/r's didn't like it one bit and we would come out in the morning to find them either dead or in their death throes. Not battling with live bugs.
good luck with your pidgin - it won;t take long esp if there are children around you can practice on!
